We cleaned up and played!

It might have been a rainy afternoon but our hardy participants in the first PTA NES GROWS Clean Up and Play Day accomplished a lot of work around the school yard.  In between rain drops, they spread mulch on the nature trail, planted flowers in the pots along the roadway, and planted bushIMG_5385es in the rain garden.IMG_5395 The children enjoyed nature-themed crafts, fairy house building, and tie-dying.  A popular activity was puddle jumping and although very few escaped dry, much laughter was heard.  Charlie LaBella’s hot dogs were especially popular as was Coastie the Safety Boat. Black Earth Compost removed all the compost and paper goods from the day for a low waste event.IMG_5388 IMG_5381

A big thank you goes to organizers Sally Milliken, Michelle Walsh, Emily Sullivan and Eileen Wallwork. The great volunteers, including Principal Yando, Elaina Sayles, Tammy Cotter, Hilary Lind, Anne Langlais, Alexa Strauch, Krista Yablin, Carrie Kennedy, and Jess McManus plus helpful parents and students made the event a success. In addition, many thanks to the representatives from local groups who exhibited their work, includng the Parker River Wildlife Refuge, Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control, Blue Ocean, Katie Haried, Carol Baum, Coastie the Safety Boat and the US Coast Guard Auxillary, the Parker River Clean Watershed Association, and the NES Student Council Recycling Group.
